I have ugly days once in a while. I'm sure everyone does too. My roomie's friend came over from NYC to hang out in Des Moines for a week. So he just came back with my roomie after going out for a while and the moment he comes back, he tells me that he has a friend who thinks I'm hot. I was baffled. Not to mention blur.
So, okay I tell him. Who is it? He got on my laptop, went on Facebook and showed me this guy. He's a Caucasian male model. Apparently he saw my picture on Facebook through my this dude friend and said "Whoa, she is hot! Where's she at?" However, he's a blonde and I prefer dark haired men. But male model?^^
So there, I have an admirer who happens to be a male model. Shoot me all ye who envy! If you know a friend who is having a bad day, say..."I have a friend who thinks you're hot...", make sure he's a male model and that it is the truth!

Iowa's Hidden Lakes
Who would think that there would be decent sized lakes in Iowa? I didn't for one thing. I always thought that there is not much of recreation activities to do here; except for maybe horse riding. Anyways, the day after I got back from Missouri, a couple of new found friends took us to Saylorville. It was a really nice place. We spent some time there before going for dinner at a new Thai restaurant.

Catalyst
I went down to the Lake of The Ozarks, Missouri from Monday to Friday to attend Catalyst which is a leadership conference for all Intervarsity CF Leaders. In the beginning, I treated the conference as a short vacation away from the cramped house that I was going to be living at. However, I was totally blown away by the conference. It was awesome to see how many students have committed their life in serving others through leadership. Initially, I was hesitant about taking up the position because I felt so inadequate because of my weakness and brokenness. In the end, I realized that God wants us, despite of our brokenness; He wants us to be obedient to His calling. He can use us despite of our weaknesses because He makes us strong in Him when we are weak.
Other than the meetings, we had fun going about the whole area that we were at; Windermere. The facilities were awesome, they had almost everything! One night, we walked all the way up this hill to the Chapel on top of the hill at midnight. It was fun but kinda creepy as well because it was so dark. We spent time in prayer for our fellowship at Drake at the chapel before heading back down. I went for a high rope adventure and boy, it was a good adrenaline rush but at the same time, freaky! There was this obstacle which consisted of a single wooden pole about 25 feet from the ground called "The Leap of Faith". The objective of the obstacle course is to climb to the top of the pole and leap about 4 feet across and grab the rungs that hang from a wire about 30 feet high; all the while strapped into a harness. Climbing to the top of the pole was easy but when I had to balance myself and stand up on the pole, I was freaking out. I had to manipulate my both feet onto the end of the pole which has a circumference about the size of a dinner plate. Not only that, you had to stand up and all the while you're doing this, the pole is wobbling. I finally stood up but then, I had no guts to jump across. When I finally did, I was so terrified because you feel yourself falling momentarily into empty space before the harness jerks you to safety.
I had wobbly knees for a while after that. There was an important lesson I learnt about the obstacle course. Climbing up the pole is like going up the ladder in your walk with God. It is easy as you start to grow, but eventually, things get harder the higher you reach the top. Then, when you get the courage to stand up, God asks you to trust in Him and take that step forward in obedience to him. You are hesitant, because it is scary as you're afraid of missing the mark or falling down. But you do it anyway. If you miss, it is alright because the safety harness is there, catching you if you fall. The safety harness is like God's mercy and grace, He'll catch you if you fall. Kinda interesting insight from going through an obstacle course I think...
Other than that, there was a lot of crazy fun things going on with the other leaders from my chapter at Drake which is to be expected. All in all, it was an awesome experience, I came back boosted spiritually but physically tired. I am looking forward to a slow week ahead before my trial Capoeira lesson next week. Am definitely looking forward to that!

ZOMG!
Well, I finally packed my stuff and moved some of it out. Oh boy, I realized that I have tons of stuff! My room is pretty empty now so much so that it feels weird. My friends are leaving or have already left to Malaysia so I guess the summer will be different. Tomorrow will be the last day that that Hubbell will be open. Only for breakfast. I won't be seeing him again...maybe forever! Gah!
I went to Hubbell for dinner today and it was rather empty, not surprising since a lot of people left already. When I walked through the entrance, I was like "What?!". He was working the register and I freaked out inwardly (of course!) because I don't want to see him face to face but at the same time, I do. He saw me, I saw him and of course, I acted all nonchalant. He said "Hello"...and I replied with a "Hi". He was acting really cool and all, took my card, fiddled with it for a moment before swiping it. I acted like I didn't care but inside it was ZOMG!. I was totally zoned out from that for a while.
I prepared to have dinner by my lonesome because none of my friends were there. I sat there...thinking. Eventually they showed up. The view from the table was better than expected. After closing the register and locking the doors, he was wiping down the tables and arranging the chairs. I prefer to watch him doing stuff rather than watching him when he's free just in case he realises that I'm looking at him. My friends told me that I suck. I have to agree with them on that one. I totally suck when it comes to talking to a guy that I'm crushing on. My guts vanish and I go into a blank state of mind - absolutely tongue tied. My friend said that he probably thought I was stuck up. Well, I'm not...just freaked out.
When we were leaving, he was wiping our table down. The last table as he already did the others. As we were going out, my friend smiled at him....I grimaced. He didn't smile back according to her. I suppose that's the way he is. Too cool to care perhaps? Or just a jerk...? I'm terrible at this anyway so it wouldn't make any difference.

Done and Moving Out!
I am finally done with finals. Gag! It was painful somewhat, but since it's over, I don't want to think about it. Yay summer here I come! Plans for the summer are slowly cranking out and they look so good. For one thing, I'm going to LA in the summer...confirmed because I have booked the tickets and hotel etc etc. Then, next Monday I'll be heading down to the Lake of The Ozarks in Missouri from Monday to Friday for the purpose of attending a conference but then again, it will seem like a vacation to me anyways. Tentative plans to head down to Chicago sometime in the summer but we'll see how that'll work out.
I'm looking forward to lazy summer days; lying down in the grass under the shade of the tree with a good book in hand. I haven't read in a long time. Miss that.
But now, it's time to pack my stuff!

Tagged
Rules: For those who have been tagged, you are required to write a story about one of your crush, be it a current or previous crush. To be exactly different from the common tags, there is no questions imposed this time. All you have to do is to write a story about him/her. Also, five persons will need to be tagged at the end of the post. This tag is originated from Ms Lee (http://tsa3yun.blogspot.com). You must post up these rules before you start writing.
I've been tagged by no other than Grace. Oh well, I suppose a story would be fun since I'm sick of studying at the moment.
He first caught my eye one day while I was having dinner at the main dining hall. He looked like someone I recently met. It's not very often one comes across good-looking people who work at the dining halls. His job as far as I can guess, was to push the dish cart around and replenish the food counters with new, clean dishes. Besides that, he took out the trash and cleaned the drink fountain trays. After getting a better look at him, I decided to have dinner at the dining halls everyday - for the sights.
And that was precisely what I did. As the days moved on, my infatuation with the "Hubbell Zombie" (as dubbed by my friend) grew. I would go religiously to the dining hall for dinner everyday when I can help it at 6.30pm. And there he would be, coming out from the kitchen with his cart. I started looking at him every so often so much so that I think he caught me several times. I had to do something. The semester is almost at an end.
On Monday night, when I went for midnight breakfast, he was there, working OT. I had the opportune moment to make my move and smile at him. We were walking towards each other and he was looking straight at me - eye contact and all. I lost my train of thought for a moment and forgot to smile. Sadly, that chance has not come again. I think he's been keeping himself busy in the kitchen mostly these days. I wonder why.

The Sweetest Thing
I wanna make you smile whenever you're sad
Carry you around when your arthritis is bad
All I wanna do is grow old with you
I'll get your medicine when your tummy aches
Build you a fire if the furnace breaks
Oh it could be so nice, growing old with you
I'll miss you
I'll kiss you
Give you my coat when you are cold
I'll need you
I'll feed you
Even let ya hold the remote control
So let me do the dishes in our kitchen sink
Put you to bed if you've had too much to drink
I could be the man who grows old with you
I wanna grow old with you
Carry you around when your arthritis is bad
All I wanna do is grow old with you
I'll get your medicine when your tummy aches
Build you a fire if the furnace breaks
Oh it could be so nice, growing old with you

"Ambiguously Good-Looking"
He skulks around; pushing the cart filled with clean dishes out of the kitchen as he replenishes the various food counters. Standing approximately 6 feet tall, with dark hair, eyes and stubble….I am fascinated by him. I never expected to come across a good-looking guy who works at one of the dining halls. He is not a student but a permanent staff worker. He can’t be more than 25 years old but oh-so-good looking to me. Probably of Middle Eastern or Hispanic heritage. Ferid, is his name. Having friends who work at the various establishments around campus helps, especially when it comes to identifying people. My friend nicknamed him “The Hubbell Zombie” but if he’s a zombie, he’s one heck of a good-looking one. I have dinner at Hubbell everyday, just to catch a glimpse of him. He smiled once. Wished it was at me. The subject of my interest at the moment.
In the beginning of the semester, it was a grad student by the name of A. Being from Kazakhstan; his abilities included speaking some 5 languages. I think foreign languages are smexy* (spelled intentionally). Pretty decent looking he is I suppose. Apparently, I have tendencies for liking men who are “ambiguously good-looking”, meaning that they can go either way. I never noticed it until a friend mentioned it to me and I have to admit that it’s true at the moment. I don’t like him(A)so much anymore. When my friends ask me what my type is, I can’t really specify but I’ll take tall, dark and ambiguously good-looking anytime.
* credits go to Tony on this one
