Double The Fun!

I am still celebrating my birthday, since yesterday and it feels awesome! So my roomie and my friend Sam planned a surprise party for me, complete with streamers, balloons, cake and friends. I wasn't expecting anything much and was looking at a quiet birthday but I guess I was wrong. Heh. This is a perfect example of when being wrong is a good thing. It was fun to have most of my friends celebrate my birthday with me but the room was too small to invite any more people and I think some of my other friends we're rather disappointed that they weren't invited but I didn't do the inviting. If I had my way, there would've been more people around.

So this was what I came back to. Streamers and balloons everywhere. Cleaning up wasn't too bad because we had help removing the stuff from the ceilings. I wasn't tall enough for the job.

My friend Steph made the cake and I wasn't spared. I had cake on my face later when my friend Sam decided that I needed to complete the "Ecuadorian Birthday Tradition" of eating cake with my hands behind my back. I kinda knew what was coming so it wasn't so bad. At least I didn't get frosting in my hair.

Nothing like celebrating your birthday with your friends. I love you guys!

My friend Harold who came a lil late to the party but he helped us clean up.

My biggest surprise for the day, a dozen red roses that was delivered to me. When I got a call from the front desk saying that I had flowers to pick up, I thought it was a prank. But I went down anyways and came back with these. Even the RA (who happens to be cute) asked me if I had any idea who they were from. I told him I honestly didn't. Surprise surprise! They we're from my ex-roomie Belinda. I think that was one of the most extravagant gestures I've experienced in a while. Might be going out in a lil bit to party again. What more could a girl want for her birthday eh?

Dancing Friday Night Away

Okay after this event, I would say that I actually enjoy partying. I know I know, it sounds bad but its not. The term is usually associated with "unhealthy" activities but I just enjoy hanging out with my friends. We went to celebrate a friend's 21st birthday at Luxx and despite the initial disappointment of a friend not being able to attend, I had a ton of fun. Possibly the most I had in a long time. Although the creep was there, he stayed a good deal away from me but he ended up trying to hit on one of my friend's roommates which sucked big time. He should just be kept away from women.

I spent most of the time at Luxx dancing the night away with one of their friends. He's an awesome dancer and it was such a nice change to be able to dance with someone that good. Haven't done that in a long long time. My Kazakh friend was there and I asked him to dance with me but lol, he isn't a good dancer and he honestly told me so. So somehow, I ended up dancing with Jim and boogied the night away.

Valentine's Day

This is the first year that I had so much fun on Valentine's Day although I am single. I went to the Valentine's Day dinners on both Saturday and Sunday night. I was right! The one on Saturday turned out to be a blast! I got all dressed up for a fun night out with my friends. I didn't expect to see so many other girls who turned up for the event. There were about 150 girls in total and everything went smoothly as the limo and luxe SUV sent us to the church hall. Yes...you heard me right...a limo! I met some new friends and caught up with others.

This is me with Emily. As you can see, I look really good in that cheongsam (lol!) but it was really cold outside at -8 C. I practically ran (in stilettoes) all the way from Grace's dorm to Olmstead Center. I only had that dress on and my winter coat but my winter coat is only knee length.

I was dancing around from the cold while waiting to get into the limo. I managed to take several pictures before we got in.

The limo was the longest one I've ever seen and it was so cool to be able to ride in one for the very first time. They really packed us in. I think there were about 15 of us in that limo.

Ally, myself and someone else whose name I forgot. We were sitting by the door so we were the first ones to get out. I know I look really scary in the makeup but it's the lighting. The guys were really nice, once we reached, they escorted us one by one out of the limo into the building, made small talk and took our coats for us.

Once we got into the building, we basically went photo crazy. Both of us (Grace and I) looked really good that night. Actually, all of us looked really good!

Nicole and I

We asked a friendly gentleman to take a picture of us and he was more than happy to oblige. He took this one of us while lying on the floor to get the right angle...haha.

There was this little arch at the entrance where people stood to take pictures. It kinda reminded me of prom and since I didn't have prom in school, this one made up for it. While we were waiting for the guys to serve us, they put up pictures of us to see and this one came up on screen several times.

Nicole, Kerry and I. Kerry is a really nice guy...one of the first few Americans I met over here. He was waiting on tables and was involved in the performances later on.

Nicole, Andrew and I. I've been over to Andrew's place for dinner once (check history) and he was also involved in performing later on that night. The guys served us salad, baked chicken wrapped in bacon with pasta and a choice of cakes for dessert. It was nice to see the guys being so courteous, accomodating and entertaining all at the same time.

The theme for the night was "MTV Made". The audio and visual crew prepared weeks ahead for the event. They made episodes/parodies of various MTV programs such as "Real World", "Cribs" and "Pimp My Ride" and showed them on the big screen in addition to all the live acts. This was supposed to be TRL-Total Request Live and Kerry was no other than Carson Daly.

A bunch of guys pretending to be Blink 182. The surprising thing was that some of them really did look like the band members and they sounded pretty good too.

These two were supposedly two members of Nsync. They sang "God Must Have Spent A Little More Time On You" but Andrew forgot some of the words in the middle of the song and made some up instead. That drew some laughs. :)

A guy in a pink tutu...not something you'd see everyday.

Another cross-dresser! They were really sporting enough to make fools out of themselves to entertain us girls.

Kerry and 2 other guys dancing to boy band pop music. I'd have to say that their performance was the best one that night. Everyone could tell that they practiced and I was rather impressed at Kerry's pirouetting skills!

The other guys who weren't involved in the actual performances helped out by being enthusiastic audience members. I had a blast that night, and so did my other friends.

At the end of the night, we were provided with rides back to wherever we wanted to go to. Nicole, Ann and I got into a very nice Honda sports car driven by a cute guy named Steve and we were chauffered back to campus. What more could a girl want eh?

Happy New Year

So okay, I did eventually go to the Curve yesterday night...but not to join in the festivities. After picking me up, Yvonne went to pick Chin up from MidValley and we went there. The jam was horrible! The police diverted traffic around because they closed the street for the countdown party. Basically, the whole of the Curve was jammed packed. It took us several rounds before we found a restaurant that didn't have a long snaking queue to get in.

Laundry was out of the question. Overflowing into the street and onto the neighbouring restaurants. We ended up having dinner at about 10pm at Little Penang Cafe and stayed till almost closing. They had to 'chase' us out by issuing our check before we even requested for it. I had fun though, just hanging out and talking.

After that, we went for dessert at Paddington's. Business was so good there that they ran out of ice to serve customers who ordered cold drinks. Spent New Year's Eve talking about rubbish and all things in between. My cousin decided to join us at the last minute along with a friend of his. So I actually spent New Year's with some of my closest friends. To Gracie in the States, I'll be seeing you in a week's time! To my friends and blog readers...may this New Year bring much joy, blessings and fulfilment to all of you. Have a Happy New Year!

Away From the Madding Crowd

Every New Year’s Eve it’s the same. Traffic jams and madding crowds everywhere! Okay, I don’t mean to sound like a spoil sport but hey…it’s too crowded to go anywhere and enjoy yourself. So, for a few New Year’s Eve celebrations, I’ve actually stayed at home alone and watched TV. For as long as I can remember, it wasn’t a big deal to me. However, since this coming year is going to be different, I thought about going out to usher in a brand New Year. The first option, as always, was to go to church and celebrate the New Year with whoever was there. This year, my family members and several of my cell members are attending.

Okay, I thought…why not? It might be a little boring but it is way better than staying at home this time. Then, my friend calls me up and asks me out. However, she can’t decide on a venue to head to. I don’t blame her. Our conversation went something like this:

Her: “Hmm…what about KL? There’s this “cun” place near Starhill.”

Me: “Are you kidding? It’s going to be super crowded…plus, I have to be back by 1am.”

Her: “You’ll be lucky if we don’t get caught in the jam on the way back. You arr,
damn “potong stim”.

Me: “Eh, I’ve only got one week left so I don’t want to get nagged by my mum nor do I
I want to leave in pieces… What about Laundry at the Curve? There’s a street
party tonight.”

Her: “You want to go there? It’s going to be crowded!”

Me: “You tell me where’s not crowded?!!”

Her: *Sighs* “I dunnolah…”

The point is…I’d rather celebrate on New Year’s Day than during New Year’s Eve which in fact is no different, minus the jams and crowds. Right now, am I actually welcoming the thought of staying at home tonight, with the TV and a tub of Baskin Robbins ice-cream to accompany me…

(p/s We have yet to decide where to go to…)

Crazy Christmas

This was probably the busiest Christmas ever! Imagine this...four days of partying non-stop and hosting a total of 5 parties. I've been eating and eating until my stomach gave way yesterday so much so that I'm now suffering from a sensitive stomach. Satay, chai pau, mee hoon, pizza, various chicken and beef dishes etc. have passed through my system in the past few days. But then again, there is absolutely no reason for me to start a diet as I have plenty of reasons to gorge before I get deprived from yummylicious Malaysian food.

The days are flying by it seems. Less than 2 weeks more until I leave. Yvonne took a day off yesterday just to spend some time with me and today, another one of my friends came over after lunch and hung out with me until dinnertime. She told me that she was missing me already and asked me not to make her cry at the airport. I told her that I should be the one saying that to her instead! Anyways, I'll be free until I have to leave so if any of you guys want to ask me out for a drink or movie or just to hang out, do so before it's too late! Hahaha...

Hey, No Sneaky....Sneaky No Likey!

I guess I've underestimated the sneakiness of my parents on more than one occasion but this tops everything off. I was about to go out for lunch and a movie with my best bud Yvonne. But as soon as I got into the car, I was made to close my eyes as she said there was something planned for me. Naturally, I thought it was something my friends planned. Little did I know, my parents with the help of my CG Members...organized a huge surprise birthday party for me!! It was really amazing because first of all, I never expected it and I actually planned to have a party the coming week. My parents were so good at keeping the secret that when I went to get some party supplies for the supposed party, they nicely played along. However, I wasn't completely free of suspicion as I actually discovered an SMS sent by my friend to my mum last week. When I asked her (Yvonnes), she made up a very good story.

Needless to say, it was probably the best (surprise!) party I ever had and I felt really blessed that all of my friends made the effort to come with the exception of a few people because my mum didn't invite them. Having a wishlist really works because I actually got part of what I wished for. So people, next time your birthday comes around, write one out and post it on your blog! Thank you guys for making the effort to come to the party, for showing your care and for the wonderful presents. I wouldn't be who I am today without your constant support and prayer.

Thank you CG for the new bag!! I really wanted something big to take to University and I'm glad you got me what you did. Thank you Hannah for the Tiffany bracelet. It looks nicer than the Tiffany & Co. one and I'll be sure to bring it with me when I go away to the States. Thank you Chin for taking the time to go out and get that Jazz CD for me. I love it! Thanks Ps. Moy How and family for taking the time to attend my party and for the gift of books. Also, I want to thank all the other Uncles and Aunties who gave me ang paus...I won't be broke for a long time. Another big thank you to Uncle Alfred and Aunty Helen for conspiring with me in getting the phone! But most of all, thank you mum and dad for giving me the best celebration I ever had and for taking the time to plan the party for me.

The Awesome (?) 80's

I don’t think I’ve ever been to a fancy dress party in my 20 odd years of existence. Sad huh? I never realized how fun it was to dress up to a specific theme. It was YT and Rina’s 30th birthday bash and it was all 80’s styled. I had little clue of what fashion styles reigned throughout the 80’s so I decided to look some up. It was awful…so awful that it was almost unbelievable that people actually wore what they did. Anyways, I couldn’t bring myself to dress in acid colors so I did the 80’s my way. To my surprise…it turned out all right.

The party was really fun, but half the guests that turned out didn’t bother to dress up and that was quite disappointing. But, I’m glad to say that all the CG members were a perfect picture out of the 80’s! Those who didn’t make an effort to dress up got punished (of course!) and were made to eat a horrible concoction of all the leftover party food including the cake and some extra condiments from the kitchen. During the games, some of us were rather blur during the 80’s trivia as we were probably too little to remember what we watched…with my exception of MacGyver. Our lack of TV Trivia knowledge was fortunately made up by the rest of the party guests who mainly grew up during that period of time.

Happy 30th YT and Rina. It was a blast! Now, I wonder what a Medieval or Monster themed party would be like…Hmm…
