Brain Dead

I suppose I am partly to blame, for not starting on my work earlier but hey...spring break was around the corner and the holiday mood kicked in. Then you say, "You could've done your work over Spring Break". Oh...I was doing work alright, community service type work. And the last 2 days I had before school started was devoted to finishing my projects and homework and to recuperate from lack of sleep.

I have a paper to hand in on Monday and my professor was like yeah, just write whatever you want. No page guidelines, no starting point...no nothing! Usually, my over active brain would come up with some ingenious idea but right now, I think my brain cells are slightly fried due to the amount of stresses that I've experienced over the past week.

So here I am, supposed to write my paper while I am sitting here in some corner in the library but what am I doing? Blogging, listening to music, sleeping...basically doing everything but that I'm supposed to. Help!

Genius Me!

Ever since I found out that my modem is the one that has been giving me problems, I made up my mind to get a new one. Preferably with a wireless router. I got it today, at the PC Fair; along with other items like a webcam, microSD and etc. I realized that on more than one occasion, I've acted as a money lender to my friends. I find it rather amusing that they don't bring enough of money to events such as the PC Fair where there are tons and tons of bargains awaiting the general public.

Anyways, my cousin helped pay the 'interest' (lol!) by being the porter and carried my bags for me. When I got home, I immediately ripped open all neccessary packaging for all items. I installed them one by one, leaving the modem/router for last. As I flipped through the manual, I was feeling a litte unsure as the instructions weren't very clear. However, after attempting just once, I actually got it to work. I felt like a genius! Since I'm not such a hardware freak, I think it's quite an achievement. But, now, I have to make it work so that I'll be able to use the wireless features. Right now, I'm connected via LAN cable. So here I am, blogging once again from home! My Internet is back online but I've still got my desktop to repair...hmmm...

Treasure Hunters

It was fun to be able to attend T.H.E. Carnival again this year as last year, DUMC didn’t organize one. Our CG had fun tending the game stall that our Zone was responsible for setting up. I still don’t understand how people can stand in line to play the same game over and over again. Even I who was managing the booth got quite tired of seeing their faces over and over again. It wasn’t 3 or 4 time but more like 7-10 times non-stop! Argh!

The weather was good, meaning that there wasn’t a cloud in the sky…which was good and bad because it was really hot! I was sweating buckets and it wasn’t a pretty sight. My poor brother got sunburned and is now 3 shades darker. I didn’t really want to queue up for the games as the lines were pretty long so to alleviate possible boredom, I entered the Treasure Hunt contest which my mum signed up for. Hannah joined our team but had to leave for home in the middle of the game.

Nonetheless, we managed to finish answering the questions after nearly cracking our heads because we had to think so much! Our hard work paid off because, we only got 3 of the answers wrong which clinched us the 2nd prize. The gifts were really good, shopping vouchers and a hamper, all of which we split 3 ways.

Now my mum is thinking of entering a major treasure hunt contest when she comes across one…Yay?

Connection(s)

Although I like to think of myself as reasonably good with computers, in real fact, I'm just a little above the average Joe when it comes to them. However, today I feel like an absolute genius. Ever since I got my new laptop, I've got it working to my satisfaction with the help of Ju. I've only connected to the Internet once, at Ju's using his wireless, meaning I haven't managed to connect to Streamyx at my house. I was hoping to try out my laptop at home and I tried setting up the connection but somehow, it didn't work.

As I was rather bored today, I decided to try once more and once more I tried. It didn't work. I had absolutely no idea of how to set up a New Connection. Then before I gave up, I gave it one last shot. I never knew it was that simple to set it up. I wish I knew earlier!! But it was good to learn how to do it by myself anyways. I find that when I learn how to do things by myself, I tend to remember how to do them again in the future. So, this is your friendly computer techie signing off...

Take 2

Recently, I managed to obtain a digital camera for my personal use. Before that, the only camera at my disposal was my webcam but sometime early this year, something went wrong and I couldn't get it to work on my computer. No matter what I tried or thought of, it didn't work and eventually, I gave up on it. However, a friend came over to help my mum install the other printer to this computer and managed to fix the cam! So now, if any of you want to have video conversations...I'm ready and willing!!

Techie Away

Although I've yet to finish solving the stupid problems with the University applications, I've encountered another one. My mum recently has been relying on me to try and help solve any computer related woes around the house. To honestly think that I'm not very computer literate and I am expected to find ingenious ways to cure any PC related issues is kind of crazy. I can mantain the condition of my computer if I'm the sole user and know what I actually put into it, unlike *ahem*.

Anyways, I wonder what will happen once I leave. I think I might as well kiss goodbye to this baby of mine as it will probably be trashed by the time I get home. Not to mention that I will most likely be getting my own computer to meddle around with so it definetly compensates for the fact that I have to leave this one. But before I go, I will definitely transfer every single one of my files to my laptop. Especially the pictures and music files that I've amassed. Can't risk losing those precious files....and, I'll transfer them to my future iPOD as well! ;P

On Friend Lists and Emoticons

One of the painful parts about going away is that you will be away from your friends and family. However, this does not mean that one is limited to just paper and pen to communicate. Now with internet, anything is possible; even video conversations.

It had been a while since I last switched on my computer (not including last night) as I've been preoccupied with other things. But when I connected to the Internet last night, I was horrified to discover that I couldn't log into my MSN Messenger and no amount of troubleshooting fixed the problem. I even rang up my computer whiz friend to see if he knew what was wrong. He didn't. Since no amount of panicking helped, I decided to calm down and just let it go. All my lovely emoticons, the display pictures of my friends, and the easy access to my e-mail and MySpace tab, gone.Surprisingly, as the night wore on, I slowly got over it...perhaps it was also attributed to the fact that I was sleepy.

Anyhow, when I turned on my computer today, and tried my luck again. It worked!! The first thing I did was check and see if all my emoticons were saved. Haha! So sue me! But when I go away, it also means that I can't just ring my friend up to come over and help fix my PC if its acting up. What will I do then?
