Conversation

Sometimes its hard to have a decent conversation with someone. At times, it's just that the both of you don't have anything in common to talk about, other times it might be just inward hostility towards each other. And at times, it may just be general awkwardness that arises out of past interactions. The conversations below actually took place.

Situation A

*knock on door*
Me: Come in!
*door opens*
Me: (cringes inwardly) Oh...hey.
Him: Hey, how are you doing? Just came by to say hi...
Me: (rolls eyes mentally) I'm good...good.
Him: You look good. I actually came by like 4 times but no one was in...
Me: Oh...
Him: How was your trip back home?
Me: It was pretty good but I fell sick. I had tonsilitis.
Him: Really?! How did you get that?
Me: I have no idea.
*interrupts*
Him: Coz people I know who had it had to take them out...and I think the last time I went to the hospital was when I had a sinus infection...
Me: Oh..I didn't go to the hospital and I didn't have to take them out.
Him: Really? Why? Coz you're cool like that?
Me: (Are you kidding me? =.=") Yeah, coz I'm cool like that. *half sarcastic smile*
Him: Right...I see you got new sheets. They're nice.
Me: Yeah.
Him: You look well.
Me: (Huh? What?! Am I supposed to look like crap or something?) *smiles* So what are you doing later?
Him: Oh, I'm going to go upstairs and grab some books so that I can do some homework over dinner.
Me: Oh, alright. Have fun then.
Him: Thanks. See ya.
*leaves*

Situation B

*approaches drink fountain*
Me: (Omg, of all people...) *plasters on a smile* Hey.
Him: *looks shifty* Hey, how are you?
Me: I'm good.
*takes cup and prepares to dispense drink*
Him: Are you kidding me? I cannot believe tha they're out of Powerade when I want some...
Me: Well, looks like you have to get something else.
Him: Yeah, I'll just get some lemonade.
*awkward silence*
Him: So, how are you?
Me: (looks at him half incredulously)
Him: Oh...I asked you that already didn't I?
Me: Err...yeah?
Him: So why don't you ask me...
Me: So..how are YOU? *emphasizes the word YOU*
Him: Oh..haha(awkward laugh), so that's how its going to be huh? I'm good.
Me: (drawls)Good.
*prances off with drink*

Hmm...if I recall correctly, there was a lot of swearing underneath my breath as well. Oh well! *shrug*

Ne-Yo & I

This is one of those random blog posts. I was listening to my playlist and I realized that Ne-Yo's songs perfectly described part of my life last semester in sequence, haha!

"Can We Chill"
But you the flyest thing I seen
Since I came up in here, you a superstar my dear

"Because Of You"
Know I should stay away from, cause it's no good for me
I try and try but my obsession won't let me leave

"Let Me Get This Right"
Girl you want us to be
Official make this thing for real
You for real?

"Go On Girl"
Yep she had plenty
But love for me, she didn't have any

"Ain't Thinking About You"
Not gonna let it stress me no more
I won't put up with you and your drama
No not tonight

"Let Go"
But baby that was then
'cause now we don't
Talk no more

Ahh...love Ne-Yo. Never knew he had Chinese blood but I guess one can tell from his eyes. :)

Doubts

Today I had my first senior capstone class for my major. I think it was one of the few times I felt such panic inside. The class involves completing projects that are endorsed by outside parties with real issues to deal with. For a short moment, I felt inadequate, inexperienced and wondered why I chose my major. I felt like I knew nothing!

There were 4 different projects and we could choose which one we wanted to do until the spots filled up. The bad thing was that I was sitting at the back of the classroom and I was rooting for 2 of the 4 projects. I didn't get any of them. I got the one that I didn't want to do at all but then again, after thinking about it, it wasn't too bad and I'm glad I got it because I sort of know what type of research should be done. I guess things happen for a reason.

I saw the person I thought I was over everyday since I came back. I realized that I'm still not completely okay but I'm getting there. It was hard seeing him again and it seems like we're avoiding each other. Maybe it's the best thing to do for now. I'm looking forward to the day when I can look him in the eye and confidently say that I'm doing good when he asks me how I am.

Back in 237

After an uneventful but tiring flight, I am finally back in Des Moines. The day we arrived, Mother Nature was kind to us and it was a mild -7 degrees. Today will hover around -12 degrees or so which isn't really bad until the wind blows. It felt weird to be back. Surrounded by so many familar faces and yet, I felt out of touch. I felt that way when I got back home to Malaysia. It somehow feels that I don't really belong anywhere...neither here nor there.

I managed to attend all my classes which is good because I hate having to e-mail my professors and explain to them. So far so good. 4 out of 5 of my classes are taught by professors that I already know so I know what to expect from them. This semester is going to be another interesting one, classwise I mean. No more drama outside of the classroom please!

My new hairstyle has been well received so far and I'm going to take it as a good thing. :) Change is always good. I am looking forward to a brand new year...a fresh start.

-15

My final week here was probably as good as the first week since I got back. The lull in between was uncalled for but I guess it was a good thing because I needed to take a rest to recover from my illness. I still find it hard to believe that I'll be flying back in 3 days. I'm already missing my friends and family. I'll miss my dad and my mum...my bro and my dog. It's good to remember the good times we had here despite a few setbacks.

I wonder how well I'll be able to handle the 50 degree difference in temperature change. Haha...*ponders*

Hair

I've never been one who really cared about how my hair looked like. For as long as I can remember, I've always had the same hairstyle with few changes in between. So when I came back for the holidays, I decided that I needed a change to go with the times.

Since it was my last week back home and I was feeling better than I was a couple of days ago, I decided to take my friends advice and head off to Danny's. After consulting Danny, I realized that how your hair is speaks a lot about you. He told me that my hair was flat, weighed down (heavy) and a little dry. The same thing could almost be said about the past couple of months of my life.

So when he washed my hair and chopped chunks of it off, it literally felt like he was cutting off the drama that had occured in my life in the past few months. As crazy as it sounds, I felt a lot lighter and like I could look to a fresh new start to the year 2008. What was needed was more definition and some volume thrown into the mix. I'll be alright.

Now How Is This Fair?

Grr...so I am stuck at home, feeling sore in all the wrong places, not to mention nauseated and a lil bloated because I just happen to have tonsilitis and most of my friends are out being busy one way or the other. I wasn't really complaining (I think), not until I log onto Facebook and see this picture!

A picture of a person that I don't like very much seemingly having a ton of fun while I feel miserable because I'm sick! Now how is this fair? I don't deserve this! Something is wrong with the picture here...change it!

Tonsilitis

Beware, the image that you are about to see is very graphic. If you suffer from a weak stomach and/or a wild imagination, I suggest that you skip the picture below. Picture courtesy of WH. This picture is not of me.

The swollen tonsils of a once healthy 20 year old male who was suffering from acute tonsilitis.

I am unfortunately plagued with the same predicament only milder. I'm doing my best to get well soon and get up and running since I only have 10 more days till I fly back to the States. Nothing like not being able to gorge on your favorite foods because of some stupid throat ailment. Bah!

So This Is Home

So here's my more or less set daily routine since I came home.

10.30am - Wake up

12.30pm - Have lunch

1pm to 5pm - Space out and/or do random things at home

6pm - Take a shower

7pm - Have dinner

7.30pm to 2am - Space out and/or do random things (unless I go out to yumcha)

2am - Sleep

Conclusion: Bored to death! Anyone want to come and rescue me?
