I know the show must be a few years old but I never really got to watch the whole show in one go. However, I did today and I must say that I find the whole storyline very interesting. I don’t think some people will agree with me as from what I heard; it has been rated as boring etc. Not to a science geek like me. Think of it, with the advances in science anything is possible. Sooner or later, ethics and human rights will no longer be a problem to sidestep for the sake of research; or for the so-called “benefit” for us humans.
Humans are at the very core, selfish and will do almost anything to survive even harvest organs from clones (which was shown in the movie). It’s a horrible thought isn’t it? Cloning someone who looks like you and has your DNA just to kill them eventually and use their organs to your benefit. They say that clones do not have souls, I wonder if that’s really true…? I suppose God only knows the answer to this question. In my opinion, even stem cells taken from cultivated embryos is an unethical practice. They say that life begins at conception meaning that stem cell research on embryos is no different from murder or cloning.
No one has the right to play God. It is hard to be completely objective and at the same time, hold on to your beliefs when it comes to science. It may seem that you have to separate God from science but the fact is, God created science. In theory, a lot of things may seem possible, like time travel and cloning. But I believe that some things should just be left alone; let God be God and nature take its course.
