I step in puddles everytime I take a walk and birds are up and about...along with squirrels and bunny rabbits. Large patches of greening grass is showing through the blanket of white that I was so used to for over a month. Spring is finally kicking in!
Gone will be the snow and the harsh artic winds chilling me to the bone. Gone are the days when I have to wear layers of clothing just to keep warm. Gone are the days when waiting for the bus seem like endless hours. I can walk around now in a t-shirt and a light jacket. It's a balmy 7 degrees Celsius outside during the day and it drops to about 0 to 2 degrees at night.
I haven't posted in a while I know but last week was a real lazy week for me. I had nothing much to do so I was really bored. My roommate went away to Colorado for the weekend so it was nice to have the entire room to myself for a couple of days. Nicole and I rented DVDs and started our own movie marathon, complete with popcorn, chips and candy.
Last Saturday night, the Malaysian Students Association (MASA) at Drake organized a Chinese New Year Potluck dinner. I got together with some of my friends and we whipped up some chickuteh. Needless to say, it was all gone. The Chinese really know when Spring comes because the next day (Sunday - CNY) the weather improved and has stayed that way ever since. Happy Chinese New Year!

mmm popcorn and chips.
It's pretty balmy here as well, getting warm at noon (the lower 70s) and pretty cold at night (lower 30s). Temperature conversion... Too lazy. Google it or something, eh.
Anyway glad to know spring is coming. The Chickuteh sounded good, too bad you couldn't get pork and do it the real way. But I guess you'd need a pressure cooker and stuff.
My new year was spent dressing up in red (well, as red as I could find) and going out to a chinese restaurant for dinner.
Enjoy yourself!
Yep, popcorn and chips and 70s is a bit too warm for over here. I likt it the way it is now.
Nah, we cooked the chicken on purpose; the cuts are easier to obtain and its halal for one thing.
Well, hope you had a nice CNY all the way down in sunny Daytona!
You'd think me being in Florida, it'll be warm and sunshine-y all day... but no, there are days where the temperature was 1.67 degrees (celcius, obviously) in the morning. I had the unfortunate experience of being outside in that temperature (NASCAR! but that's another story for another day) but it became pretty damn hot at noon, I'd say easily ala Malaysian noon.
Pretty funky weather. Especially since I don't have any cold weather clothes. On particularly cold day/nights I'd think I should go buy some thick jackets or something, and the next few days would turn out to be considerably warm. When I think "I don't need cold weather stuff, it's warm", temperature will drop down to 1 degrees.
Whole world's against me, I swear to g-d.
Here's something for you: Go listen to some songs by Daryl Hall and John Oates. Personal favorites include Private Eyes, Adult Education, Rich Girl, Kiss on My List, and many more. It will cheer you up. Unless you're a rock-head, then the 80s rock and soul will make you throw up. Otherwise, I highly recommend it.
Secondly, how did you know it was me? I realize that the "sunny Daytona" part was to draw me out - it worked, obviously - but I was pretty anonymous in my comments.
Still, I'm happy you're having a great time :)
After reading what you wrote, I'll have to conclude that Des Moines is more consistent that Florida, well weatherwise anyways.
How did I guess it was you? Hmm...elementary? I just put the pieces of the puzzle together...easy peasy!
What pieces of the puzzle? No, seriously, I'm curious. My writing style? What I say?
Gotta learn to anonymize myself better :)
Yeah, I guess weather there is more regular. Today was quite not-cold, not hot either. Balmy? Yesterday was hot. Maybe tomorrow will be cold, I don't know. Weather-wise... I just wear a t-shirt all the time anyway. I'm a fat guy, remember? Cold doesn't affect me that badly :)
Happy Chinese New Year, Manda! Miss you so much over here.
Aww, missing you loads too Hannah!
